The old China

We visited a village called “Zhu Ge Ba Gua village“(a bit of a mouthful) and a house that’s built by a wealthy merchant’s ancestors in the country side of Zhe Jiang. The Zhuge village follows the design of the Eight Diagrams,  from the book of I Ching or the Book of Changes.Zhuge is also the surname of most of the villagers living there. A very very charming place indeed :) .

Some of the houses there also had the most amazing relief stone and wooden carvings capturing the most intense details in the character’s facial expression… I’m rambling on now but you can tell that people from back in the days really had tranquility as the driving force behind their daily life.

Ever so fascinated by the Great Wall.

Zhong Guo is the Chinese name for China. It literally means the Middle Kingdom. I recently just returned from a family re-union as well as a vacation with my other half. There are so many beautiful things we saw, so much delicious heavenly food we ate, and so much strange and funny incidents we encountered I actually don’t even know where to begin, but lets hope these pictures will help do the talking.

This is a kite, I think it resembles a dragon. Making this thing fly must take some real skills..

While in China a lot of people still have the habit of having a siesta in mid day. Sometimes they also like to entertain themselves in a game of Mahjong, where often curious onlookers stop and watch them play, at times making funny comments about the player's skills.

A mielie corn flavoured ice cream lolly thingee. There are just loads of all sorts'a weird lollies in China

I've been to Beijing 3 times and I finally made it to the Great Wall this time. It is truly remarkable in real life and very very long

Over there we would often see guards like this walking in a line. Sometime they also appear out of no where :)

my family. Many of our re-unions were spent in food banquets and endless flowing of Chinese rice wine/Chinese vodka. The grandpa with glasses is a very special character, next blog i'll tell you more about him.

I’m also going to China today for a short holiday! I’ll be checking out the Expo, trecking around Xi An and tasting amazing food climb the Great Wall and shop till I drop in Beijing. The last time I’ve been was 5 years ago, going to see alot of changes, can’t wait!

I googled and googled and saw that Roy Lichtenstein have never painted an African person before so I decided to do it myself and cover them with chocolate-brown ben-day dots!

I’m designing a tattoo for a special friend who’s turning 30 in a week’s time, and another friend Sean who makes chairs with abandoned tyres has asked me to paint one of his chairs for the Design Indaba Expo coming up next week.

Exciting!

I’ll be posting some pictures of the process and the finished product after its done which will be sometime next week, so keep a look out for new new projects!

here’s a little sketch of a part of the tattoo.
